Questions people ask
All help pagesWhat does ClipCat cost?
Nothing. There's no account, trial, watermark or export limit. The AI suggestions use the Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for, or your own Claude API key, billed by Anthropic per use.
Do I need an account?
No. ClipCat has no account and no server. To use the AI editor, you need Claude Code or Codex signed in to your own plan, or a Claude API key.
Can I use ClipCat without any AI?
Yes. Transcribing, cutting words, the pause finder, zooms, b-roll, sound, captions, the thumbnail and export all work without one. Suggested edits, fixing the spelling of names, slides, shorts and the write-up need the AI editor.
Which computers does it run on?
Macs with macOS 14 or newer, Apple Silicon or Intel, and 64-bit Windows 10 and 11. Apple Silicon Macs transcribe the fastest.
Which languages does it transcribe?
About 100. See the languages page and Add videos and transcribe them.
Does ClipCat upload my videos?
No. Your recordings, projects and exports stay on your computer. When you ask the AI for something, the transcript text goes to the AI you picked. See Where your files are.
What kind of video is it for?
One person talking to the camera or over a screen recording: tutorials, explainers, vlogs, course lessons and podcast clips. It edits by the words you say, so a video without speech has nothing to cut by.
Can I edit several takes together?
Yes. Add them at once and they play one after another in one project. Retakes across takes show up as suggestions. You can also record more takes into a project.
Is anything deleted when I cut?
No. Cuts only skip parts of your recording. Restore any words, undo any step, and your original files are never changed.
Where is the Save button?
There isn't one. ClipCat saves every change as you make it.
Can I finish the edit in Final Cut, Premiere or Resolve?
Yes. Save a timeline from the Export tab. See Export the video.
Can Claude Code or Codex edit for me?
Yes. Connect it in Settings and ask in plain words. See Use ClipCat from your coding agent.
Is ClipCat open source?
The source is on GitHub. It's a personal project, shared as is.
How do I report a bug or ask for a feature?
Open an issue on GitHub, and attach a diagnostics file. See Fix a problem.
